Abstract: It is well known that single bit error detection and correction can be done by CRC (cyclic redundancy check). A canonical extension of this method to detect and correct any number of errors is theoretical known, however, only rarely used. Intention of this paper is to remind the readers to the theoretical and practical foundations of these methods.
